Public Meeting Tonight in Oshawa with @Metrolinx
Tonight Metrolinx officials will be at the Oshawa Civic Centre from 6 until 8 p.m.
This is the second of just two meetings where you can learn about three (3) NEW transit plans that Premier Doug Ford and his government are considering for Durham Region — Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville and Clarington.
Doug Ford and his government think it’s BEST that the ORIGINAL PLAN is scrapped and a new plan is devised that is cheaper and faster, apparently.
Key word *apparently*
(We’re pretty sure he is not taking into account all of the time and work and money that has been spent creating the original plan, including completing the studies and environmental assessment and consulting with local communities, expropriating and purchasing private land… not to mention all of the infrastructure planning and development that has occurred — entire neighbourhoods have already been built around the plan, since the project was first announced in 2016.)
To all of this, we say:
The people and tax-payers of Durham Region DO NOT deserve a plan that is CHEAP and FAST — we deserve a plan that has been carefully thought-out and that respects and takes into consideration the needs and wishes of all of our communities.
We deserve OUR ORIGINAL PLAN that will deliver GO TRAINS to the people where we are — where we live!
We deserve what is best practice, in terms of urban planning and building more complete, livable communities.
We NEED transit that is built in a consultative way that ENGAGES and brings communities TOGETHER so that we are STRONGER.
We NEED transit that will benefit our businesses (and employers) and our communities — and serve our citizens — for years to come.
